REBUILD
Whether it be a freshen up, an overhaul or a complete rebuild of your engine, gearbox or differential, we're up to the task.
Every vehicle is unique, and our consultation process reflects this.
We don't sell generic packages. Instead, our aim is to cater to your exact requirements to ensure you're satisfied.
Engine overhauling
Whether it be a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder, at PTM you get the best quality rebuild using nothing but top quality parts. Our engine builder has over 30 years of experience and leading industry experts to call upon should help be required.
We also specialise in rebuilding older engines from the likes of Datsun and Land Rover, where intimate knowledge of the inner workings of a vintage motor ca be he difference between a great, sympathetic build that lasts a life time, and something that burns oil, blows smoke and needlessly requires more money be spent on it!
Gearbox repair
Due to the mechanical nature in which it functions, a gearbox will see wear with use.
Gear sets, synchro's, and bearings are just some of the components that see wear due to friction. Over time, this will introduce play, and eventually failure within a gearbox.
The solution is a complete tear down and inspection of the unit, to diagnose the point of failure. From there, these parts can be replaced with a partial or complete rebuild of the gearbox.
We offer our repair services where possible - whether it be local market, European, Japanese, or American, disassembly and repair of your gearbox is possible.
Differential modification and repair
Most commonly, your differential will be resealed due to age and wear. A fairly simple process that involves removing and replacing gaskets and seals within.
Other times, your differential may require a repair or replacement due to aggressive use resulting in the destruction of its gear sets.
Our experience spans basic maintenance, the install of Lokka LSD's, all the way to rebuilding of complete differential units.
Clutch replacement
If your vehicle is struggling to go up hills, failing to smoothly engage gears, or making grinding noises, it may be time to replace your clutch.
A clutch replacement will involve the removal of the gearbox to access your clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. We will also inspect your clutch hydraulics, fork, bearings and engine rear main seal for wear or damage and advise replacement.
The gearbox and its components will be thoroughly cleaned before assembly and all surfaces freshly lubricated. A gearbox service can also be part of a clutch replacement.
Single mass flywheels are able to be machined, while dual-mass flywheels require replacement at extensive cost.
Though the fees associated with a clutch replacement are expensive, a replaced unit should last around 100,000km.
